On
Wednesday, November 3, 2004 moderate Republican U.S. Senator
Arlen Specter cautioned newly reelected President Bush that
he hadn't earned a "mandate."
"If you have a
race which is decided by a percent or two, if you have a very
narrowly divided country - that does not qualify for the traditional
mandate... to govern, we have to bring the country together...
I believe that President Bush will have that very much in mind." (CNN)
Well said, Senator Specter... well said, but you would be wrong.
Speaking
with reporters the very next day - Leo Rising U.S. President
George W. Bush, royally declared that he had, in fact,
earned a "mandate" from the people. "Let me put
it to you this way: I earned capital in the campaign, political
capital, and now I intend to spend it...there is a feeling that
the people have spoken and embraced your point of view, and that's
what I intend to tell the Congress."
It's hard to say just what planet George W. Bush is living on
in order to believe he's received a strong, clear mandate from
the American people. It's a fact that, regardless of which 2004
candidate might have won, neither Bush nor Kerry would have had
a strong, clear mandate - and that either man elected would have
needed the wisdom to reach out to the other half of angry America.
2004 U.S. Presidential Election Forecast Revisited
In my January 1, 2004 astrology forecast for the upcoming year
I stated that it was my opinion George W. Bush would win reelection
to a 2nd term. I further stated that, in the days and weeks
leading up to the election, there would potentially be a shocking
surprise of some sort in direct connection to foreign affairs.
It would be a surprise that would likely fill many Americans
with a sense of renewal, hope, and optimism.
I have to admit that in the days leading up to November 2,
2004 - I was personally waffling as to whether or not there
would
be an "October surprise." However, in retrospect, I
believe that there was an "October surprise."
Granted...
it was certainly much more subtle than expected, and rather
than filling Americans with a sense of renewal, hope, and optimism
- it filled certain American's with last minute fears about
voting
for U.S Senator John Kerry.
The October Surprise
What was the October surprise? Many, otherwise rational people,
had conjectured for months on end that Osama bin Laden would
be captured by the Bush administration in the days and weeks
leading up to the 2004 Presidential election. While that obviously
didn't happen, the Bush campaign did unwittingly end up getting
a little unexpected last minute assistance from Osama.
October 29, 2004, just four days before the U.S. presidential
election, the world received the first videotaped message from
Osama bin Laden in nearly three years (December 2001). In the
released video, bin Laden made an obvious reference to the
controversial Michael Moore movie Fahrenheit 911 and
Bush "listening to
the child's story about the goat rather than worry about what
was happening to the towers."
For
many, including myself, this bin Laden video was basically
a "non-event." "Who in the heck cares what this
pompous jerk thinks?" But at least for some voters, as reported
on by the National Public Radio (NPR), it was just enough to
change their vote from Kerry to Bush.
Moral Values Paramount in Election
As I have pointed out repeatedly (if you've followed my articles
over the years - to ad nauseam), individually and collectively,
humanity is currently engaged in the first years of a 20 year
Taurean cycle (starting in 2000). During this period of time,
Taurus ruled by Venus will be continually asking us the hard
question, "What do you value most in your life?"
Whether
on a societal or individual level - honoring the Taurean
energies contained in this great planetary alignment will involve:
the
offering up of our values, the reevaluation of our values,
and then the fortitude and slow, steady, staying power required
to stand solidly behind what we have chosen to value.
As flawed as they were, the infamous "Exits Polls" revealed
one very vital thing about the 2004 U.S. Presidential Election. "Moral
values" were the number one factor in the 2004 election.
Therefore, it should come as no surprise that transiting Venus,
the ruler of Taurus, had been hovering directly over the U.S.
Sagittarius Rising chart (Sibly and/or Rudhyar) Midheaven on
election day.
What
that means is regardless of who you might have voted for on
November
2, 2004, that person inexplicably voting for the
dreaded "other guy" was, just like you, making a strong
stand for their sense of moral values.
While "coming together" as
an American people may feel insoluble for the time being, I
still believe in America.
In the end, we will come out of this difficult time stronger
and better than ever.
